In the case of network licensing, the licence management is performed outside the licensed application—an external licence server is used to authorize application usage and manage licensing. The licence server can run on any computer on the network, including a computer on which the licensed application is run. Network licensing is desirable in case of large/small enterprises, where centralized licence management is desirable.
SIS is informed of the available network licence(s) using the cadcorp_licence_server_list environment variable.
In earler versions of SIS the CADCORP_LSHOST environment variable was used to inform SIS of one or more licence server computers to contact for the network licence.
This is no longer the case and SIS now uses the cadcorp_licence_server_list environment variable to contact one or more licence server computers.
SIS will send a directed call to the servers that are in the cadcorp_licence_server_list file. The call will traverse the list of licence servers beginning at the first licence server in the list and moving down the list.
Valid licence server host names must be separated with a tilde (~). For example, use the following command:
SET cadcorp_licence_server_list=SERVER1~SERVER2
As an example, a user could have a laptop and they check out a network licence, i.e. 10.0.0.1~No-net would use the network licence on 10.0.0.1, if this failed it would then use No-net (No-net means look for a local licence), therefore one icon can carry out two functions.
Notes for previous versions of SIS:
- Variables LSHOST and LSFORCEHOST were previously used. These variables are no longer valid and are not recognised by SIS.
- If the environment variable was not set in previous versions of SIS the application would perform a broadcast for any licence server that could authorize SIS to run. This is no longer the case and no broadcast operation is carried out.
