Manual Installation

This is a manual installation procedure that involves copying the files required for SIS.

This procedure has some advantages and disadvantages over using the supplied installer to install SIS.

Manual installation offers more flexibility than is available with the installer, however it does require a knowledge of the SIS program structure and some familiarity with editing the system registry.

The files necessary for the manual installation may be downloaded from the Cadcorp Portal.

The following bullets show the features achieved with each type of installation:

The Installer

Registers that the product has been installed on the machine
Creates registry entries for SIS location and version
Creates shortcuts in your Start menu or Apps view
Allows Add-Ins to be added after installation
Automatically adds and renames the licence file
Automatically adds the Licence Administration Tool
Allows you to configure network licence server connections and shortcuts
Allows you to optionally install:
- Gazetteer
- Metadata Manager
- Capability for SIS in Python
- Ordnance Survey (GB) Utilities
Associates Cadcorp SIS with relevant files (SWD)

Manual Installation

Does not register the product as installed.
Add-Ins may require manual installation and configuration
Needs manual addition of the licence file and copying of shortcuts to desktops
Can be customised to suit a specific environment or requirement
Requires knowledge of the structure

With this manual method you may also need to install the following pre-requisites:

Sentinel System Drivers v7.6.6 (only required if your licence file is dongle-locked)
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 (already installed on Windows 2012, Windows 8 and 8.1)
Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 14.0.4763.1000 (required for reading Microsoft EXCEL (*.xlsx) and ACCESS (*.accdb) documents if OFFICE is not installed).

Settings for Manual Installation

Variable settings

To set the variable that will allow Add-Ins to be installed you must create the appropriate key in the registry:

SIS x64 on 64-bit OS or SIS x86 on 32-bit OS:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cadcorp\SisDesktop\8.0\InstallPath

SIS x86 on 64-bit OS:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cadcorp\SisDesktop\8.0\InstallPath

Then set the (Default) string value to where SIS resides, e.g.

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS

Shortcut settings

To create the shortcut for the appropriate product:

"C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\Cadcorp.SIS.Loader.exe" Cadcorp.SIS.exe —Product:MapModeller --Country:*

Note: Make sure the Desktop shortcut points to the CADCORP_LICENCE_SERVER_LIST environment variable.

Adding a licence file

To add a licence take the licence file supplied by Cadcorp – the filename will be in the form:

cadcorp.lservrc.724274_DF_2D269_8.0

You need to remove the numerical part of the filename so that it is renamed as:

cadcorp.lservrc

Then place the renamed file in the installation folder.

For 64-bit installations:

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\

For 32-bit installations:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cadcorp SIS\

Reducing the size of the SIS installation

If you need to trim down the size of the installed product, the following large files in the SIS installation can be removed, with the following consequences:

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\Plugins\GBR\Cadcorp.OSGB.CodePointOpen.Plugin.db - 70MB
C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\Plugins\GBR\Cadcorp.OSGB.50k.Gazetteer.Plugin.db – 30MB

Geocoding processes using these OSGB address products cannot be used.

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\Cadcorp.OS.MM.Manager.ocx – 36MB

The OS MasterMap Manager cannot be run.

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\3D.Backdrops\Default.db – 52MB

The user will have limited choice of globes when using the 3D Window.

C:\Program Files\Cadcorp SIS\Cadcorp.SIS.Control.ocx – 59MB

ActiveX applications cannot be run.
