Align to Geometry

Align to Geometry squares up geometrical segments that are close to but do not quite form right angles with one another.

You might use this to square up a building outline which has not been accurately digitised.

  • Select the item(s).
  • Now select CAD > Alter > Align to Geometry.

All segments which diverge by about 14 degrees or less are rotated so that they form right angles with one another (any segments which diverge by more than this are left alone). The segments are rotated about their midpoint in order to align them.

Align to Geometry lets you quickly align many items but it is generally not as controllable as Align to Axes. For eg be cautious using this command if you have a row of digitised houses built to a common layout line. Align to Geometry will simply align each house within itself.
