Using the Plugin Universal Gazetteer

By default the Gazetteer works in the OSGB (British National Grid) co-ordinate system. To change this locate the .ini file that it uses – this is entitled “PluginGaz.ini” and can be found in the AppData folder {C:\Windows\System32\drivers\config\systemprofile\AppData\RoamingAppData\Roaming\SISPluginUniGaz}.

The first line in this .ini file holds the co-ordinate system code – simply type in the code you wish to use and then close the .ini file (for example OSGB is “27700”, WGS84 (Lat/Lon) is “4326” and so on).

Note: This .ini file will not exist until after the Gazetteer is used for the first time.

  • Start Cadcorp SIS Desktop.
  • Select "Gazetteer" from the Home tab and then choose "Universal Gazetteer".
  • The search for records is performed using the Field1 and/or Field2 fields.
  • To search for entries containing more than one word (or part-word/phrase), simply separate them by spaces (e.g. entering “word1 word2 word3” as the search criteria will find all entries containing word1 AND word2 AND word3)
  • To perform the search, either hit the ‘Return’ key or click the “Search” button.
  • Use the ‘configure’ button to set appropriate ‘captions’ for the “FIELD1” and “FIELD2” fields. Once set these captions appear in place of the default “Field1” and “Field2” labels on the Gazetteer dialog.
  • When results are returned, simply click on an entry to be taken to that location in the map window.
  • Double-click an entry will to be taken to that location and then immediately close the gazetteer dialog box.
  • Clicking on the "OK" button or closing the dialog window (with the "x" in the top tight hand corner) will leave the view as is (from the last 'clicked-on' result), and close the dialog.
  • Clicking the "Cancel" button will return to the original view that was displayed before the Gazetteer dialog was opened.
  • The relative scale when viewing results can be changed by selecting radius values from the "View Extent" drop-down list.
