Map Controls and Interactions

Any embedded map (used alone on the page or inside a side text block) can be displayed with informative controls. These controls include scale lines, layer switcher and more and can be switched on or off.

Interactions

Maps can be made interactive to engage the viewer; interactions also help to visually focus on different sections of a complex map. Once you have added a map, select Interactions.

Remember any interaction you add to a map is pegged to the presence of a particular design element- in this case a Heading. To work with interactions, ensure:

  • any side text block has one or more defined headings.
  • any SIS Webmap block has a heading present just above the map block. The heading can simply be a banner block or a centered text block with a heading markdown (e.g. ##This is my title)

Here are some examples

Getting Started with Interactions

On your block options, click Interactions.

Already created interactions are listed in order of appearance. Click + to create a new interaction.

Follow the simple 3-step wizard to create an interaction.

Field Description
Name Assign a unique name to the interaction. This is useful to locate and edit when there are numerous interactions on a page. For ease of use, we recommend referencing the heading for which the interaction is being created.
Trigger Specific heading which will trigger the interaction. Enable Run Once to ensure the interaction will only happen once when the page is open. This is useful when creating two or more interactions for the same heading. For e.g. the first interaction zooms the map to the desired location. Second or third interactions can start at the zoomed location.
Action - Click + to add a new action or select an already available one from the drop-down menu.
- Assign a unique name to the action and start building the steps. Click Add Step and select a relevant one from the drop-down menu.
- You can create as many steps as you need and choose to run them concurrently.
- Remember to save each action.
- Click Finish when done.

Any headings associated with interactions can be identified with this icon.
