Differences between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9.1
Some key differences exist between the SIS Desktop 9.1 32-bit and 64-bit versions (eg support for some file formats or access for certain datasets which require correct supporting software).
Restriction - File formats
The following file formats are not supported for 64-bit.
- Google Sketch-up (*.skp)
- netCDF (*.nc)
Oracle Database Connections
To connect to Oracle you MUST have an Oracle client installed on the machine you are using. The version of Oracle (x86 or x64) must be the same as the version of SIS Desktop 9.1 you use to connect to Oracle.
If connecting to Oracle on a 64-bit version of SIS Desktop 9.1 you require the 64-bit Oracle Client installed on your machine.
Note: It is only the client version of Oracle that is important, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9.1 can connect to either 32 or 64-bit Oracle server (providing the correct client is installed).
Oracle Database Limitations
The following methods for adding an Oracle overlay will work with (SIS Desktop 9.1 32-bit + Oracle client 32-bit) and (SIS Desktop 9.1 64-bit + Oracle client 64-bit):
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > Oracle Spatial
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > OS MasterMap Topography Layer
Add Overlay > OSGB Overlay > OS MasterMap Topography Layer
Restriction - Oracle Database Overlays
Using Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9.1 64-bit + Oracle client 64-bit the following methods for adding an Oracle overlay are not supported:
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > Cadcorp Editable Dataset
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > Cadcorp View Geometry
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > Cadcorp View Points
Add Overlay > Spatial Database > OGC SQL92 Dataset
Microsoft Office
Cadcorp recommends that users have the same version (32 or 64-bit) of Microsoft Office and SIS Desktop 9.1 installed. For users on 64-bit machines running Microsoft Office 32-bit, either 32-bit Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9.1 should be installed or users switch to 64-bit Office and install 64-bit SIS Desktop 9.1.
Although it is possible to have different architecture versions of Microsoft Office and Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9.1 installed, every time a Microsoft Office program is opened it must go through a configuration process which takes roughly 1 minute to complete.
