Loading OS Data into Relational Databases

The specially built OS MasterMap Manager allows OS MasterMap data to be loaded directly into any of the supported relational databases as below:

OS MasterMap Topography Layer

A dataset that views OS MasterMap Topography Layer data stored in any of the relational databases supported by the SIS Desktop 9.1 OS MasterMap Manager:

  • Oracle 9i or later
  • PostGIS
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008
  • Microsoft Access 2000 or later
  • OS MasterMap Database (ODB)

OS MasterMap Address Layer

A point dataset of OS MasterMap Address data. Click here for a full description of OS MasterMap Address Layer.

AddressBase Loader

The AddressBase Loader is a free-standing application that uses a wizard-driven interface to load National Address Gazetteer data into a database.

The  AddressBase Loader reads all three AddressBase data products:

  • National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG)
  • National Street Gazetteer (NSG) and
  • Ordnance Survey OS MasterMap® Address Layer 2

as zipped CSV files and is able to load the data into predefined schema in Microsoft® Office Access, Microsoft® SQL Server®, PostGIS®, and Oracle®.

For many addressing applications it is sufficient for the address data to be held in a database. However for GIS and web mapping systems, it is usually necessary to represent the address as a point feature in the GIS or spatial-enabled database.

This is to take better advantage of the location information associated with an address.

The AddressBase Loader handles this requirement automatically by using the Oracle, PostGIS and Microsoft SQL Server spatial data handling capability.

The  AddressBase Loader creates the necessary geometry fields in the database schema and populates these fields as part of the data loading process.
