How to use a Filter
You can filter data for analysis using any combination of filters.
To use filtering options, click Set Filters :
The Set data filters window opens:
Dynamic Filters
| Field | Description |
| Original Incident Type | Type of incident recorded as the appliance is dispatched. This is usually defined by the dispatcher based on the emergency call. |
| Actual Incident Type | Incident type added later to confirm the actual incident classification. This may or may not be different to the Original Incident Type. |
| Station Ground | The station to which the incident report is assigned. |
| Vehicle Type | Type of vehicle used for incident response |
| On or After | a date on or after which an incident is open |
| Before | a date before which an incident is open |
| Period |
Edit Filters
All Dynamic Filters can be edited to categorise by type or to select OBs.
Simply click the Edit Filter button next to each filter.
Edit options differ from filter to filter. For example the Original Incidents filter allows you to select categories from a drop-down menu.
The Station filter allows you to select/unselect OB. (OB means the station is over the border and belongs to a neighbouring fire service.)
Note: Stations are marked as OB in the table tblBases.
Static Masks
| Field | Description |
| Spatial Mask | Restricts analysis to incidents in a specified area (pre-selected in the SIS Map Window). |
| Life Risk | Displays the Incident Life Risks dialog to set the life risk categories. |
Note: All displayed values come directly from the Workload Modeller Add-in database; they can be changed any time by editing the database directly.
Check Filter
Use the Check Filter option to see how many incidents and callouts the filters will pass through for analysis. This can be used for historic data or model output.
Select an option from the drop-down menu and click the Check Filter button.
This shows you the number of results affected by the spatial mask; it also gives you the option to create a view in the database (an Access Query) which can be loaded as a View Points overlay (the table has columns for Easting# and Northing#).
So, for example, you can easily create an overlay of incidents:
- with Original Incident Type of BIN INSIDE or BIN OUTSIDE;
- assigned to Station Grounds; A03, A04, A05, A06 or A07;
- attended by a Vehicle Type of PRL;
- occurring in April 2006.
Set Life Risks
When logging responses to incidents, emergency services typically document levels of risk to life the incident provoked. Use this filter to narrow down search results based on Life Risk data. it's just an additional filter option. Typically a comprehensive Workload Modeller database will already contain this data ready for use; you can also add or edit your own categories.
as seen on the Main workspace of the Access database
