Dual Staffing

In Workload Modeller, a vehicle’s availability is defined by its Shift. This in turn is specified in the relevant Appliance (Resource) set.

In the real world however, fire services have certain vehicle types that do not have their own crew but are instead used by the crew of another vehicle. This has an impact on the available resources.

For example if a Hazmat appliance can only be taken out by the crew of a regular pump, that pump will not be available if the Hazmat is mobilised.

To improve modelling using these vehicles – the ‘special request’ vehicles – a new shift has been introduced. This is called the "# Dual Staffing #" shift.

This shift indicates the vehicle is available 24/7 but if it has been mobilised, then another appliance must be taken ‘off the run’.
