What is a Pen?

Pens are used to draw and control the appearance of LineString items and the colour of Text items.

A Pen has a colour, a set thickness and a specific linestyle.

A Pen can also exist on multiple levels (multi-level Pen) and have:

  • an offset
  • symbols which draw at the start and end of the LineString item.
  • a user-defined pattern
  • symbols which draw at intervals along a LineString item

Note: SIS Desktop 9 is supplied with a variety of Pens (and brushes). You can also create your own. See Creating, Choosing and Editing Pens.

Pen (and brush) definitions are stored in Named Object Libraries.

A Pen may be specifically assigned to individual items or to an overlay so that all items on the overlay use the same Pen by default.
