Distance

Distance constructs dimensions between two selected points.

  1. Select CAD > Distance command.
  2. You will be prompted for a start and end point to the dimension. (use Backspace if the first point selected was incorrect).
  3. Use snapcodes to ensure accuracy.
  4. The dimension line is drawn directly between the two points (it does not use the X-axis).

A set of dimensions form a single item; this can be treated as a single item (ie picked up, copied, moved or deleted.)

The dimension graphics consist of the dimension line, text (the dimension text), and points (the dimension arrow). Their properties, such as font and Pen, may be changed as normal. The dimension arrow is the Symbol item called DimArrow located in the "(standard)" Named Object Library.

Note: Providing the Pen: Override tickbox is not checked in the Styles tab of the Overlays dialog the colour of the dimension line and dimension text can be changed from the Pen settings in the Properties of Dimension dialog, accessed from the Map Window Properties command. However the fill colour of the dimension arrow can only be set from the Brush setting in the Styles tab of the Overlays dialog.
