OpenStreetMap (XML) (*.osm;*.xml;*.bz2)

Collaborative project to create free editable maps. Generated by gathering GPS data and utilising various separate free sources. The data is formatted using a Topological structure constructed of Nodes, Ways, Relationships and Tags.

OpenStreetMap uses the WGS-84 lat/lon datum. OSM was founded by Steve Coast in 2004 and the rendered maps are licensed under Creative Commons.

XML is the native geometry format that the data making up OSM is created from. SIS Desktop allows registered users the ability to download sections of geometry direct from the OSM servers.
