Upgrading to Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9
Here is a brief overview of what you can expect from our latest suite of products. We have streamlined and enhanced many features while retaining our core efficiency.
Cadcorp SIS Desktop 9 is now a single application that includes Map Modeller and Cadcorp SIS Desktop. The following products are no longer available:
- Cadcorp Map Manager
- Cadcorp Map Editor
- Cadcorp Map Modeller
TIP: 8.0 and 9 - You can install and run all Cadcorp SIS 9 products alongside Cadcorp SIS 8.0 products.
Product Upgrade - All users of the above products will be automatically upgraded to Cadcorp SIS Desktop at no extra cost.
Web Map Layers 8.0 will give way to Cadcorp SIS WebMap 9.
Web Map Express 8.0 will give way to Cadcorp SIS WebMap Express 9.
Network Licence Server - All Cadcorp products included as part of the SIS Desktop 9 release will require an updated Network Licence Server (9.3). Download the updated Network Licence Server files from here
Click here for help with installation.
Lock Code Generator - An updated Lock Code Generator must be used with all Cadcorp SIS products. This can be downloaded from here
Cadcorp SIS Export Dataset - Support for the Cadcorp SIS Export Dataset (SED) has been discontinued.
OGC CS-W - GeognoSIS no longer includes support for the OGC Catalog Server Web (OGC CS-W). The Metadata Manager has also been removed.
The following applications have been discontinued:

-
Utility Add-In
- Date Wizard functionality is replaced by Temporal Analysis added to Desktop.
- Cut Out functionality is replaced by improved export and editing tools in Desktop.
- Advanced Labels did not work with database layers and new functionality for Labels in Desktop has been introduced .
- NOL Catalogue is considered redundant.
- Manage NOLs is considered redundant .
- Spatial Wizard is now included in Desktop as the Spatial Expression wizard.
- Generic DXF Exporter functionality is replaced by the addition of Template Files in DXF export .
Compatibility - Cadcorp SIS WebMap and Cadcorp SIS WebMap Editor must be run against GeognoSIS 9; they cannot be used with GeognoSIS 8.0.
Compatibility - Cadcorp SIS WebMap Express can be used with either GeognoSIS or GeognoSIS Express 8.0 or 9.
Configuration Upgrade – A webMapLayersConfig.db from Web Map Layers 8.0 can be dropped into an installation of Cadcorp SIS WebMap 9 to retain configurations of the application between versions.
GeognoSIS Installation - GeognoSIS now uses a dedicated administration service instance which is created during installation. This service instance (running on a user defined port) CANNOT be used for any mapping.
GeognoSIS Manager – The GeognoSIS Manager is no longer installed as a Microsoft Management Console application; it is now browser-based. GeognoSIS 9 can be accessed using all browsers except for Microsoft Internet Explorer. A dedicated standalone browser for GeognoSIS Manager can be installed instead if using Microsoft Internet Explorer is non-negotiable.
Backups – GeognoSIS Backup files created in GeognoSIS Manager 8.0 can be restored in GeognoSIS 9; however ensure you configure the instance to run on a different port if GeognoSIS 8.0 and 9 are running on the same serve.
Creating and Restoring Backups on the same machine - You will need to create backup files for each instance you want to upgrade from GeognoSIS 8.0 to GeognoSIS 9.
Note: See also Backup and Restoring Instances in our GeognoSIS 9 documentation.
When moving the backup files ensure they are renamed; this is because the name of the backup file is used to create the name of the new instance in GeognoSIS 9.
For example the backup in GeognoSIS 8.0 will produce a file using the instance name e.g. WML8.gbup. You should rename this file to reflect its use in GeognoSIS 9, such as 4777 - WML9.gbup. We recommend that instance names include the port number you propose to use in GeognoSIS 9.
To restore the backup in GeognoSIS 9, click on the + icon and use 'Create Instance from Backup' selecting one of your newly renamed instance backup files. The instance will be created but not started if the port number defined is already in use. Click on the ‘Properties’ of the new instance and change the Server Port number. Once the instance is started, you can rename the instance.
Data - SWDs created in SIS 8.0 can be read directly by all Cadcorp SIS 9 products. Cadcorp SIS V6 bds files cannot be read by SIS Desktop 9.
Use with RDP – Cadcorp SIS Desktop Express does not allow its use through Remote Desktop Connections (Protocol). To run Desktop Express using RDP, please contact your account manager at Cadcorp.
