PDF templates

FindIT results are presented as PDF documents. To present the results in a specific format FindIT includes some editable Microsoft Word documents which are used as templates for creating the PDF.

Three separate templates are installed during FindIT installation. You can locate them here: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\SISWebMap9.0\App_Data

1. front_template.docx

This is the template for the front page and has five placeholders.

Placeholder

Description

%SEARCHDATE%

Date of the search

%SEARCHTIME%

Time of the search.

%POLYGONID%

ID of the search polygon.

%RESULTS_TOTAL%

Total number of features found.

%CONTEXTMAP%

Embedded map of the search area.

The embedded contextual map is included in the frontpage template. You can also choose to include it in the back page. To do this:

  1. Add a new paragraph anywhere in the template.
  2. In the new paragraph add the text %CONTEXTMAP%
  3. In the same paragraph insert a temporary image and set its width to the desired size.

Note: When the PDF is created, your sample image will be replaced with an image of the map. This will be the current view at the time of the search. The width of the image will be maintained, however the height will change as the aspect ratio of the map image will be preserved.

2. table_template.docx

This is the template to display results and has 3 distinct sections.

%LAYERNAME% - Name of the layer with results

%LAYER_TOTAL_FEATURES% - Total number of features found on this layer

The table you see displays the feature header and will be copied for each feature found.

%ID% - The schema column name that contains the identifier for a feature

%IDVALUE% - The value from the above schema column.

The body of the table has 2 placeholders. This contains the rest of the schema columns for the feature and copied for each feature.

%COLUMN_NAME% - Schema column name

%ATRRIBUTE% - Displays the value

Remember to adjust only the styles on this template NOT the layout. Ensure nothing is removed or added.

Troubleshooting jumbled text

On rare occasions, you may find text jumbled or illegible like this.

To fix these text issues:

  • Open table_template.docx (or wherever jumbled text appears)
  • For each table in the document, right-click > Table Properties > Set the Text wrapping to ‘Around
  • On the text positioning tab, enable ‘Move with text
  • Ensure ‘Allow overlap' is unchecked.

3. backpage.docx

This is the template for the back page. It is optional and has no placeholders in it. If needed, you can include any text or image of your choice.

The finished PDF will have at least 2 pages, the front page and a results page. Each layer with results on it will start a new results page.

Include copyright statements

It is easy to add copyright statements to search results generated in FindIT (both online and printed).

You can also include hyperlinks to other websites in your copyright statement.
