Description:

Run allows you to dimension between any number of selected points. The distance to each point is measured relative to the first (similar to Datum [CAD-Dimension], but the dimensions are displayed as a "run" (similar to Chain [CAD-Dimension]). You may dimension any graphics which have the status of hittable or editable.

Select the command. You are prompted to give a position on screen through which the dimension line will run (the dimension line is drawn parallel to the X-axis). Next pick a point to dimension from, using snapcodes to ensure accuracy. All further points will be measured from this first point. Then pick a point to dimension to. Keep clicking on further points to create further dimensions. If you make a mistake inputting a point, you may remove it using the Backspace key. Press Enter when you have finished.

Having constructed a set of dimensions they form a single item that can be picked up and copied/moved/deleted as a single item. To pick up the dimension set, click anywhere on the leader lines, or click on the dimension line anywhere except on its grab handle.

The dimension graphics consist of lines (the dimension and leader lines), text (the dimension text), and points (the dimension arrow). Their properties, such as font and Pen, may be changed as normal. The dimension arrow is the Symbol item called DimArrow, located in the "(standard)" Named Object Library.

The dimension line may be moved closer to or further from the items you have dimensioned, by picking it up by its grab handle. (The leader lines are stretched or shortened accordingly.)

The leader lines may be stretched or shortened by clicking on and moving their relevant vertex point (which is not at the end of the line, but offset from it).

Dimensions are dynamic - if you move a leader line (by its vertex) the dimension value will be updated accordingly.

Note: Providing the Pen: Override tickbox is not checked in the Styles tab of the Overlays dialog the colour of the dimension line and dimension text can be changed from the Pen settings in the Properties of Dimension dialog, accessed from the Map Window Properties… command. However, the fill colour of the dimension arrow can only be set from the Brush setting in the Styles tab of the Overlays dialog.
