What is Thematic Mapping?

Thematic Mapping is the process of assigning specific themes or styles to a map. It includes annotating a map with extra graphics based on attribute data.

Thematic mapping uses symbols, shading, labels, dot density (even graphics such as bar charts, pie charts, graduated colours etc.) to display information on the map.

This information can be the distribution of data (e.g. population information), height of contours, flow directions and so on.

Overlays can have more than one theme. To add themes to an overlay use Add Theme (Home > Map) or Overlays (Home > Map).
