Overlay Types - Files

You have an extensive choice of types to choose from when adding overlays.

To see File options, select Add Overlay > Files.

File

The SIS Workspace Definition (SWD) file stores a link to the dataset. If the dataset is modified, then all SWD files with links will reflect the changes.

Note: See here for a more in-depth look at the File overlay type.

Create new file

An new and editable dataset file in various formats. The dataset file can be shared by many users and linked to many SWDs. Some formats only allow one user at a time to edit the file (file-level locking) others allow multiple users to edit (item-level locking).

Note: See here for a more in-depth look at the Create new file overlay type.

Imported File

A dataset imported from a file on disk. The contents of an imported dataset are copied into the SWD so they can be edited without affecting the original file.

Note: See here for a more in-depth look at the Imported File overlay type.

Index Dataset

A dataset that tiles together lots of other dataset files in a rectangular grid to make a continuous map base. Index Datasets can use multiple directories and/or multiple file formats.

Note: See here for a more in-depth look at the Index Dataset overlay type.

Raster Index

Indexes all of the raster files in a folder optionally checking all child directories. The index can be imported for faster re-opening.
