Subtract

Applicability:

Conditions for use:

• Item Class: LineString / Polygon
• Minimum number selected: 2
• Minimum item status: Editable

Associated commands:

• Dissolve
• Intersect
• Symmetric Difference
• Union

Description:

 Subtract can be used, where one or more items overlap another item, to cut sections away from one of the items. The items used to carry out the cutting are deleted.

Subtract does not merge LineString items to create the resultant MultiLineString item. When using this command you need to select which of the items to keep (the others are used to cut away from this item, then they are deleted).

Selecting Subtract would display the Select item to keep dialog:

Selecting Poly 1 (the rectangular polygon) would result in the following Polygon item remaining:
