New opens the FileTypes dialog:

Default Map Document
This will create a default map, which may have a non-standard default coordinate reference system and/or include Overlays from the SIS Workspace Template (SWT). The map can be saved later as a SIS Workspace Definition (SWD).
A SIS Workspace Template (SWT) is a saved collection of overlays and a view. This can be used as a base map with which to create individual SIS Workspace Definitions (SWDs).
A SIS Workspace Definition (SWD) is a list of Overlays (together with any overrides or filters applied to the overlays) and a view extent. Each overlay is a view of a Dataset. Datasets can come from a variety of sources, e.g. a file or a database.
Blank Map Document
this will create a completely empty map. The map can be saved later as a SIS Workspace Definition (SWD).
Map Template
This will create a new map based on a SIS Workspace Template (SWT). A SIS Workspace Template (SWT) can be created from any SIS Workspace Definition (SWD).
SIS Workspace Definition
This will create a SIS Workspace Definition (SWD).
Named Object Library
This will create a Named Object Library.
NOLs contain Named Objects. SIS has many different types of named object, e.g. Pens, Brushes, Symbols, Feature Tables, Coordinate Reference Systems, etc.
Blank Map Template
This will create an empty map template. The map template can be saved later as a SIS Workspace Template (SWT).
With the selection highlighted, click Next.
